Parish Chairman’s Notes April 2025

Parish Chairman’s Notes May 2025

On 7th April at the Annual Parish Meeting the focus of discussion was the future of the Village Hall, and the progress of the working party jointly convened by the CCA and the parish council. Residents were updated on progress thus far and were asked for their views on the Hall’s future and what they would like to see in any refurbished or replacement hall. The short term future accommodation for the preschool during any works was also an issue raised by residents.

Parish Councillors met with KCC highways engagement officers on 4th April. We put forward two ideas for the Rural Road Safety Scheme (works to the roundabout at the Village Green and a 40mph limit in Alders Road) and discussed how the parish would receive S106 money from any development in east Capel. We are particularly concerned about the need for traffic alleviation along the B2017 and Whetsted Road, as well as a crossing on the A228. We are hoping that the Planning Inspector will emphasise the need to complete the road improvement schemes in the Plan (along Badsell Road and the lower Colts Hill bypass) at an early stage.

The Parish Council submitted their comments on the Main Modifications to the Local Plan before the deadline on April 30th.

The Council also discussed ideas for a new village sign to replace the one which was damaged over the winter. It is hoped a replacement will be ready for later in the year. The memorial tree (to remember the Rev and Mrs Holman who donated the land) given by Capel History Group has been planted in the Rec.

The Annual Parish Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday 6th May at 7:00 and the next ordinary Parish Council meeting on Monday 2nd June at 7:30, both in the Village Hall.
